Living Together – Primary 6 Free Lesson + Worksheet
Living Things Don’t Live Alone
Living things, like plants, animals, and even tiny insects, depend on one another to survive. This is what Living Together means.
Let’s break it down!
From Small to Big: Organism → Population → Community

- Organism: one living thing (example: one frog 🐸, one tree 🌳).
- Population: many of the same organism in one place (example: a pond full of frogs).
- Community: many different populations living together (example: in the pond, frogs + fish + water plants + insects).
👉 Think of it like this: One → Many → All Together.
Habitats: Where Organisms Live

A habitat is the natural home of an organism. Different habitats support different living things.
| Habitat | Example Organisms |
| Garden | Butterflies, bees, grass |
| Pond | Fish, frogs, lily pads |
| Seashore | Crabs, barnacles, seaweed |
| Tree | Ants, birds, moss |
| Mangrove Swamp | Mudskippers, mangrove trees, snails |
Each habitat provides food, water, shelter, and the right temperature for survival.
What Affects Survival?

Whether an organism survives depends on:
- Physical Environment – temperature, light, water
- Food Availability – easy or hard to find?
- Other Organisms –
- Producers 🌱 – make food (e.g. plants)
- Consumers 🐇 – eat other organisms (e.g. animals)
- Decomposers 🍄 – break down dead matter (e.g. fungi, bacteria)
When Things Go Wrong…

If the environment changes and becomes unfavourable, organisms must:
- Adapt (change behaviour or body parts)
- Move away (find a new place)
- Or, if they cannot survive… they may die
Example: If a pond dries up, frogs hop away to another pond.
Why This Matters
Understanding how living things depend on one another helps us realise:
- Cutting forests 🌲❌
- Polluting water 💧❌
- Destroying habitats 🏞️❌
…can break the balance of communities.
We must take care of nature—because we’re part of the community too! 🌍
Quick Summary Table
| Concept | What it means |
| Organism | One living thing |
| Population | Group of the same kind in one area |
| Community | Different populations living together |
| Habitat | The natural home of organisms |
| Producers | Make their own food (plants) |
| Consumers | Eat other plants or animals |
| Decomposers | Break down dead materials |
| Adaptation | Changes to help organisms survive |
