Man’s Impact on the Environment (Primary 6 Science)
Have you ever wondered…
- Why our skies sometimes look hazy?
- Why some animals are losing their homes?
- Why Singapore plants so many trees along the roads?
👉 The answer lies in Man’s Impact on the Environment!
Everything humans do affects the Earth – sometimes in good ways, sometimes in harmful ways. Let’s learn both sides.
✅ Positive Impacts (Good for the Environment)

Not all human actions are harmful. Some protect nature and help living things survive.
- Conservation – Protecting animals and their homes
- Example: Wildlife reserves, banning hunting of endangered animals.
- Reforestation – Planting new trees to replace those cut down
- Example: Singapore’s tree-planting campaigns, mangrove restoration.
❌ Negative Impacts (Harmful to the Environment)

Sadly, many actions by humans damage nature.
- Deforestation – Cutting down forests
- Destroys habitats of animals
- Reduces oxygen production
- Pollution – Making the air, land, and water dirty
- Air: Smoke from factories and vehicles
- Water: Plastic waste in the sea
- Land: Rubbish and chemicals dumped on soil
- Depleting Natural Resources – Using up too much of what Earth provides
- Example: Overfishing, mining, wasting water
- Global Warming – Earth getting hotter because of greenhouse gases (like carbon dioxide)
- Causes ice to melt, sea levels to rise, and weather to become extreme
🤔 Why Does This Matter?

When the environment is harmed, humans also suffer.
- Less clean air to breathe
- Fewer animals and plants
- Extreme weather (floods, heatwaves)
- Rising sea levels
But there’s hope! By learning about these impacts, we can make better choices – like recycling, saving energy, and planting more trees.
🌱 What Can We Do?
Even small actions make a BIG difference!
- Recycle and reuse
- Save water and electricity
- Plant more trees
- Reduce plastic use
Quick Recap
- Positive impacts: Conservation, Reforestation
- Negative impacts: Deforestation, Pollution, Resource depletion, Global warming
Our choices today shape Earth’s tomorrow!
